(Fragments from the Latvian Explanatory Dictionary)

Laimdota Malle’s practice is characterized by fragmented sequences of images and the use of various surface treatment techniques, resulting in painterly installations. The drawn units, enlarged in scale and transferred onto a light, semi-transparent material, are based on found photographs carefully selected by the artist, who analyzes their semiotic complexity, altering the image’s origin, context, and meaning throughout the process. Within the framework of the exhibition “Irt,” the artist, for the first time, examines the impact of the image in large format and outside conventional gallery spaces.
